The ABCs of Living A Creative Life - Be Brave

It takes a lot of courage to live a creative life.  Sometimes it is easier to stay in the shadows not sharing your gifts. We all have that voice inside of us that tends to put doubt where there should not be doubt.  What if it's not good enough?  Who am I to think I can write or paint or design?  Why will people listen to me?  But what if it is good enough, which it usually is, and you don't share?  You will have deprived others of the joy of seeing your work.

It can be hard to share your cooking or writing or paintings or songs with others. But I have learned that it is the first step that is the hardest. Once I began sharing my work it became easier.  Once I stopped comparing my stories or paintings or blog posts with the work of others it became much easier.

We all have doubts. The most accomplished artist or dancer or writer was once a beginner.  They were just as afraid as you may be today.  But they took that first step. They declared to the world that they loved to sing, or take pictures, or dance. They began to say, " I am an artist."  "I am a writer."  "I am a singer."  "I create websites."  "I coach people."  They claimed who they are and when they claimed the title that always belonged to them everyone celebrated with them.

So Be Brave.  Acknowledge and celebrate who you are and what you do. Claim the title. Say it once. Say it twice and before you know it you will feel it and believe it. Go ahead take the first step.  I am a ___________.  You fill in the blank and bask in the moment!  Then share that feeling with others.

When you share your gifts and talent with the world, magic happens.  Let the magic begin!

It is so synchronous for me to see this post today. For the past week I have begun collecting notes about doubt and here you have written a lovely post about how doubt affects sharing our creativity. And yes, let the magic begin!

I LOVE THIS POST! Especially how you ended it. It's taken almost forty-two years to acknowledge the answer to your "fill in the blank." The answer for me is: I am a writer.

I have been all my life, but never felt I could acknowledge it. It was exactly what you said, I kept comparing myself (and I still do occasionally), but now I understand there will always be people who write better than I and people don't write as well, but its what I love to do.

And part of this was due to work I did with you. So, I thank you:~)
