Less Criticism - More Celebrations

When I look at my own work it is through the eyes of a critic which often makes the process of painting a lot less fun.  My goal is to find the positive in each picture I paint, or photograph I take, or blog post I write.  I find it so easy to see the positive in the work of others.  But often, in my own work, it is the flaws that stand out.  Of course, in order to grow, I have to continue to see what I need to improve and to learn new methods.  But I am going to change the order in which I do things.  First, I will look for the things I like about the picture.  Then I will decide what I need to change in order to make it better or stronger.  But celebrations will come first.  I am hoping that as the celebrations grow the need to be critical will diminish.  So here is to celebrating each finished piece just as it is.

Your post really spoke to me - I am so harsh with myself but I would never in a million years say anything like it to someone else. It is so simple for me to find the good in another's art - I am happy to say that as AEDM has gone on it has been easier to find more good in my art. I think you have a great reason to celebrate your flower - I love the petals and the way the colors are shaded!

(Do what I do.)
I am the most self-centred person on the planet.
I love what I make, most of the time. I love what you have done here and I love admiring the work of others.
Just love it...it is very pretty:)
It is also colourful and you have got some shading. Well done says I!!

I love the vivid colors here, beautiful! I think you need to tell the inner critic to sit in the corner and be quiet while you're creating! :)

Hasn't AEDM been great? It has really helped me to finish up some projects and also feel more confident about putting it 'out there' for others to see. Great job on your art, I love the bright colors!
