"Instead of giving reasons why I can't, I give myself reasons why I can."
                                                                                                                     Author Unknown

I was really excited on Wednesday when so many people expressed an interest in an online support group for healthy living.  Living a healthy life is something I strive for and work hard to maintain but for me it is always easier when I am sharing the journey with others who are on the same road.  If you read my About Page, you will learn that 15 years ago I lost a large amount of weight.  I have maintained most of my weight loss but like many people I need to stay viligant in order to keep the weight off.  I am not an expert on weight loss but I do know what worked for me back then and what works for me now.  I'd love to share a little of my experience and learn more about yours.  I hope that this will be a place where we can share our successes, set goals for the upcoming week, talk about what is and is  not working, and most of all help and encourage each other. Please leave a comment and feel free to reply to each other's comments.  I will try to reply to all comments that are left on this post.  I have never done that before but I hope we can keep a conversation going.  If you have any suggestions on a better format, please let me know.
My goal this week is to walk more.  When I initially lost all of my weight I did not exercise while I was losing weight.  If I was going to do it all over again (hopefully I will never need to), I would definitely exercise while I was losing weight.  Right now I lift weights twice a week, practice yoga twice a week, and hardly ever walk.  So my goal for the week is to walk at least five times. I plan to walk first thing in the morning before it gets hot.   I try to make my goals as specific as possible and then visualize myself doing whatever the goal is.  This seems to work for me.
I hope that you will stop by every Sunday and let us know how things are going for you.  I really think it will be fun to meet others who share the same dream.  I know that it would have been very hard for me to lose my weight without the support of lots of people.  I would love to hear about the steps you plan to take this week towards living a healthier life.

PS  Ceanne left a comment on Wednesday that www.myfitnesspal.com is a wonderful free tool to have.  Thank you so much Ceanne!!
PPS  I read somewhere this week that when you say no to one thing you are saying yes to something else.  So I am saying NO to eating foods that are not good for me and YES to feeling great!!!

I think exercise is the key to good health! I try to walk every day, even if it's only for 15 minutes. It's really helps my back stay healthy, and reduces my stress too. And walking is free! Enjoy your walks this week, Ginny!

I will try walking at least 4 times this week.

Thank you both for commenting. I walked today with the dogs. They keep me walking at a faster pace than when I am by myself. But I want to try a meditation walk at least once this week. I think it would be nice to walk early in the morning by myself. Have a wonderful healthy week.

(I stopped by yesterday but couldn't leave a comment - blogspot actingup???)

I like your goal of walking. I do a lot of walking at school anyway and I am suffering heel pain again. But for me dance is the way to go. I put on some music and just dance for as long as I can. I got up to 30 min 2 weeks ago and then got caught up in other things. i have to recommit to daily moving for sure!

Hi Bev,
Thank you for stopping by not once but twice. I remember how much I was on my feet when I was teaching and I also remember heel pain. It is not fun. I hope it gets better soon.
Dancing sounds like a great way to get moving. I love music and I used to dance all of the time. I am going to add some music to my day and see what happens. Have a great week with as much movement as your feet will allow.

The week is almost over, but I've been trying to move more. It's worked a few days, so that's a plus.

Also, if you do join myfitnesspal, I'm maredarlin over there.

Hi Mare,
My motto is any extra movement is a plus. I've walked a few days and plan to walk again in the morning. Thank you for stopping by. I really appreciate it.
PS I am going to look into myfitnesspal. Do you like it?
