Be not afraid of growing slowly,
be afraid only of standing still.

Chinese Proverb

This was a perfect quote for me to read today.  I was not sure what I was going to write but when I opened the book this was the quote that I opened to.  I realize that I am very goal oriented and like to set and reach goals quickly.  Since retiring things are moving much slower.  I am learning about lots of new things but have not really established myself as an expert in any one thing.  I like to feel like an expert.  It is just who I am.   I am going to have to really think about what the proverb above means to me now.  I need to remember I am not standing still.  I am moving forward at a slow rate of speed but I am moving forward and hopefully making a difference to others.  And for me, making a difference is a very important part of life.

Ginny, I think we teachers are used to mastering a subject. Now that I'm learning about all kinds of new things, I feel like a "jack of all trades". Thanks for the reminder that it is enough to just keep growing.

That's such a powerful quote and a vital reminder. I have a very difficult time slowing down too. Thank you for posting it and sharing your thoughts about it.

This reminds me of something a wise person was trying to teach me a recently- let myself be a beginner. I too like to master/be good at something- but I had to be a beginner at it at sometime. I have been working on being that beginner and enjoying in the process. I know I am moving forward if I look at larger time frames (which I need to improve at too).

What a fabulous photograph...very uplifting.
Of course you are moving forward, it does not matter how slowly.
I can understand your need to be expert at everything...it is NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
