Introducing Amber Rose

She wears her heart on her sleeve.
I don't often wear my heart on my sleeve but maybe that is what I am doing today.  I have been painting for a long time and it truly is only a hobby.  I've taken some lessons and it seems to me that several years ago I hit a plateau and I never seemed to move forward with my work.  So I decided to stop taking lessons for awhile and see what happened.  I have been painting from time to time but not as much as I used to.  Then the other day I read the statment " perfectionism kills passion."  And I started to wonder if that is what  happened to me and my desire to draw and paint.  So yesterday I got my watercolor pencils out and Amber Rose appeared.  She is certainly not perfect but I enjoyed creating her and I am anxious to paint some more  interesting ladies with crooked eyes and slight smiles.  Aferall none of us are perfect, so why do the women I create have to be?

I am not sure where I read the words, "perfectionism kills passion" so I cannot give the person credit for their words.  But I do want to thank them because what they wrote encouraged me to trying painting again and I am so glad I did. Hopefully these words will encourage you to retry something that you love to do.!

Ginny,

I agree about perfectionism killing passion. To me, art is whatever fills you up. It's whatever makes you sigh when you completed it.

This picture looks thoughtful to me. As if she's about to make a big decision. It's also makes me think of someone who's about to take a leap of faith. I see a little bit of fear in her eyes, but also determination. That's my take on "the woman who wears a heart on her sleeve."

I like this picture very much. You've named her and it makes me wonder if Amber Rose has her own story to tell.

Hi Sara,
I do think Amber Rose has a story to tell. I'm just not sure what it is yet but it will come to me. I love your description of art. "Whatever makes you sigh when you are finished." That is how I felt when I finished this picture. It felt as if I had overcome something that kept me from moving forward in my painting. It was a great feeling.

You are so right! Forget about perfectionism and just paint. Sometimes you will love what you make and sometimes you won't. I like Amber Rose. She is telling you to do what you love.

Amber Rose is lovely! She looks so pensive, but calm and happy. So glad you shared her with us. She will give you a story to tell, I'm sure.

Oh, that's such a great quote. One of my big goals for 2011 is to live with passion. Looks like the perfectionism has got to go : )

Amber Rose came out very nice. She has thoughtful eyes. I've been enjoying trying some portraits, too, through Suzi Blu's online class.

perfectionism kills passion....I could not agree with that more. I'm self taught in the art world and I am glad I am because I know a whole lot less about what I'm "suppose" to be doing. It's also a new journey for me, so perhaps I'd feel more like you if I'd been doing it for so long. I'll have to keep this in mind as I keep going forward.
