Happiness and Help

This week was one of those even keel weeks.  No great ups and no great lows which was very nice.  Both my husband and I got great reports from our doctors so really nothing could make me happier than that.
I did go on an artist's date with myself to the fabric store and that was really fun.  It is not something I usally do but I really enjoyed looking at the fabric.  All of the colors and textures were so interesting this time.  Usually, I go feeling a little overwhelmed and anxious about what to buy.  This time I just enjoyed the experience and I think I found what I need to cover our favorite chair which needs a little loving care.
Listening to Jamie's vimeo made me happy.  For my meeting with the teachers next week, they requested that I speak about organization both at home and at work.  Surrounding yourself with things that make you happy rather than piles is a great piece of advice that Jamie shared today.  It was amazing to me that what she shared was exactly what I needed to hear.  If you have time, I have a favor to ask. In my post yesterday I asked for some help. If you have a tip that would help this group of young working moms stay organized, I would love to hear it.  That would make not only me but a group of great women very happy.  Have a great week!!!

I'm certainly not qualified to give advice, but I can offer two sources that have been tremendously helpful to me. A website called www.flylady.net and Julie Morgenstern's books "Organizing from the Inside Out" and "Time Management from the Inside Out."

something I started in january is "map of the week". I made a list of all the things I do during the week (or would like to do :)) and then organize my week accordingly. I took a blank calendar and in pink pen I wrote all my appointments or things that are non negotiable. next I entered in pencil a day for laundry, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, garbage and such. one of the days where I have an appointment I would add my errands - library, bank, post office etc. one day for planning menus and grocery shopping for the week. one day for working on finishing up projects currently underway and always a day for play. I might use that day to play with new ideas or leave the house looking for inspiration. so far it has helped me a lot to see where I wasted time before. hope that helps! happy weekend! ciao!

I love Artist Dates but I totally resist them! It is always good to so something different for them, and I love that you let yourself enjoy the experience.. sounds like it was a really good one. Sometimes I go places just to drink in the colors of things.. there's a consignment shop that's like t hat for me, and yes, sometimes fabric stores are dreamy! I love looking at the velvets and brocades even if I walk out empty handed!

Artist's Dates are such a wonderful self-nourishing act. I know the sweet seduction of fabric stores, but recently I've been dreaming of knitting so it was a trip to a yarn store for me. I left empty-handed, but I'm longing to return!

Hooray for Artists Dates!! I sometimes get overwhelmed, too. How wonderful that you were able to just enjoy the experience.

After multiple attempts to organize my life, I've started using Jennifer Louden's Life Organizer. I find it fits my life style.
