Friday's Special Moment of Gratitude

When I started my gratitude practice over a year ago, this was the week that it was all about.  Not the week that it was easy to find things to be grateful for but the week that was filled with challenges and scary moments.  Even though this week was filled with doctor's appointments, tests, new medical equipment, uncertainty, and fear it was also a week filled with kindness, smiles, returned phone calls, honesty, and friendship.  I wonder if I had not started this practice of gratitude if I would have noticed how many people took the time to smile at us as we so slowly walked by with an oxygen tank.  Would I have noticed how excited everyone was today when my husband seemed to feel so much better?  Would I have appreciated the nurse who said that I didn't look tired today but looked so refreshed?  I hope I would have.  But by building this practice of gratitude it comes so much more naturally to see the positive even when you are scared, tired, and overwhelmed.

There was not a lot of time to paint or write this week but I did manage a quick (very quick pastel) this morning.  It felt good to paint and to be creative for a minute.  I am going to work on this some more next week.  I'm trying new paper and different strokes and blending with my finger very little.  I am not sure if I like it, but time will tell.

I hope that everyone will have a great weekend and look for those special moments to enjoy and be grateful for.  They are always there, we just have to slow down and notice them.

Congratulations on your one year of gratitude and your beautiful artwork, too.
Isn't it interesting that in the toughest times, we sometimes become more aware of the little things to be grateful for. :)

Happy PPF!!

I am so glad you were able to find time for a little creativity. I have spent my share of time in hospitals with family members and understand just how hard (and necessary) it is to carve out a few moments for a little bit of "normal" now and again. You are so right about gratitude, as well. It makes all the difference in how we experience each moment. I hope next week is a better week. xo, janice

I'm so glad to read that your husband is better -- I know that has to be so stressful! Your practice of gratitude is really reaping rewards, isn't it? You are such good role model for the rest of us. And what a wonderful pastel -- it really captures the beauty of the ocean! Have a relaxing weekend, my friend.

Gratitude is so powerful -- especially for the self. It's the most healing force I know of. Your pastel painting is so peaceful and looks unhurried. How nice to give us all a window to such a lovely scene.

What a beautiful and heartfelt reminder to notice all the small positive things that happen every day. Thank you. Your pastel seems to reflect the inner peace your practice is giving you. Happy PPF!

Ginny,

It's amazing how we discover our inner skills when we need them. I hope as I write this the crisis has passed, but I am relieved to know you have found a way of coping with it that gives your heart sustenance..

Seeing the kind and encouraging, rather than the gloomy or discouraging is a skill we all should work at!

The beach scene is lovely -- it makes me wish I could be there standing in the sand and looking out at the waves:~)

Ginny I've made it here, nearly a week later, but oh what a lovely post, so beautiful and refreshing and your lovely words, always a pleasure to read, indeed let's all try to slow down and appreciate, that is the key! xx
