Friday's Special Moment of Gratitude

This week I don't have a new painting to share but I do have a painting that I did a long time ago that I wanted to write about.  When I first started painting I was very self conscious about what I was creating and I can still be but I'm getting better about this.  When I painted this girl, I knew there were so many things technically wrong with the painting but I still liked it.  No one else in the class said anything about it (good or bad) and it didn't matter.  I just liked it so I framed her and hung the painting where I could see it but not really in a prominent place where others may also enjoy it.  Because of the comments many of you have made over the course of the time I have been visiting Paint Party Friday, I think I'll move her where others can see her.  I've come to realize (because of your comments) that my work doesn't have to be perfect for it to mean something to someone. One painting I posted reminded someone of a lake they went to when they were young.  The same painting reminded someone else of the ocean and how much it meant to them and a third person a river they sat by when they wanted to relax. They all saw the same painting, they all saw something different, and they all were reminded of a place they loved.  If my paintings, whether they are technically correct or not, connect with others and remind them of something special, or peaceful, or exciting than I am very very happy and I have accomplished what I have set out to do.

I am very grateful this week for so many things but I am just going to mention just one.  It's fall.  The weather is cool in the morning, warm (not hot) in the afternoon, and cool again in the evening.  It's my favorite time of year and I am going to enjoy every moment.  How about you?  What makes you smile this week?

I am linking this post to Paint Party Friday a very special place.

Many established artists spend years striving to regain the naive look. Good art comes straight from the heart and in doing so, touches other's hearts too. You've done it with this painting.♥

oh Ginny, i SO agree with everything you say here, and thank you for having the courage to post this girl at the ocean. Yes, i also believe that art doesn't need to be perfect to be shared, or to mean something to someone, somewhere... And like you Ginny, i also LOVE the fall! My favorite season. I just seem to get a burst of energy in September. Happy weekend to you! xox

This week I am grateful for Spring and changing to wonderful spring teas... I put away all the spiced teas and got out the green teas with guava and passionfruit and things and the whole studio smells of delicious fruit... love it...xx

I can see so many things in this painting. You might find them strange and nothing at all of what you were thinking when painting it. It's almost dream like to me with her standing ankle deep in the water, and longingly looking out to the boat on the horizon...is someone she loves leaving her? Is she cooling her feet on a very hot day or is she completely disorientated and wandering without thinking too clearly? I could go on and on.

I'm glad you decided to give her her due in a spot of honor.

I am attracted to the light colors and sweet breeze only I can feel.
;-)
HPPF!

What a beautiful and intimate post!! Many artists seems to be so apprehensive at first I was the same!! I am always amazed that the best artists are the shyest about showing their work. I think if I love one of my pieces then somewhere some one else may feel the same. When they are in my house on my wall only I have to love them. I only surround myself with art I love!! My favorite piece is by the door and greets people when they arrive. I could never tell you why I love it so much either!

Thanks again for sharing!

I really like the pose in this painting and love what you wrote about learning to appreciate your work according to its meaning for you, rather than what others think of it. Such a great message!

It really makes no difference if the painting is technically correct. What matter is the feel of it and the message that it sends. I think you should share this in a more public place in your home. It is lovely and has a great vibe to it. Beautiful work. Happy PPF

Interesting point about seeing different things in the same painting. :)
Same as Tracey. Yay, spring!

Bravo to you! You are so right about your painting, all that matters is that you like it, and if it speaks to someone else, that is just a bonus.

I love the contemplative feel of this work. This week I am loving Spring and new leaves appearing on my favourite gingko tree. :)

Look what I found when I was looking for a painting for my Writing Club to write about. I really like this. It evokes all sorts of words.
