Friday's Special Moment of Gratitude

Just a simple sketch to contribute to Paint Party Friday.  I am not sure what my fascination is with drawing hats but I am enjoying making quick simple sketches that include hats.  I am hoping by doing this I will learn to be quicker and looser with my work.  I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.  This week Jessie decided to take the flowers off of her hat and change her hair color.  Maybe I should do the same.

On Friday it is my practice to share just a few of the things that I am grateful for.  This week as always I have lots of things that I experienced that stand out in my mind.  Seeing the deer up close as they wander through our yard, feeling the breeze as I walked the dogs, and watching a tiny baby bird up close as he hopped across our garage roof are just a few.
I am also grateful for a simple reminder that the universe decided to send my way yesterday.  We live in the suburbs just a few miles from a large horse farm.  Each time I drive past the pastures I feel like I am out in the country and it feels so calm and peaceful.  I have said for a very long time that one day I was going to park the car and walk past the farm and the horses and really enjoy the experience.  But I was always too busy and so I just drove by and said to myself, "Next time I will stop."  Well, finally yesterday became the next time.  I parked the car with camera in hand ready to be transported to another place.  As I walked down the street, I realized that the peaceful ride I had while in the car enjoying the scenery was much different than the noisy experience I was having walking down the street as car after car whizzed by.  If I had stopped the car months ago, I would have learned sooner that riding by was actually the better experience for me.  It was a great reminder not to wait.  If you want to do something, do it.  It may turn out to  be the best experience you have ever had or you may learn as I did yesterday that you already have exactly what you want.

I would love to know what you are most grateful for this week.

I loved this post,Ginny! You took a good lesson away from this experience....so often we postpone things and tell ourselves we'll get around to it one day, but we need to grab the moment that we have.Carpe diem!
I am grateful to have a supportive husband. Your lady with the hat is very sweet! Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello Ginny, as always I love your posts, your lovely whimsical ladies and hats, such a happy go lucky feeling here. I'm grateful for happy moments with my children, seeing my two older boys have a great time with baby Lulu and her happiness as she laughs out loud with them, great!

Hats? Do you go to the Kentucky Derby? They are crazy into hats there! You are so right about the do it now thing- I was reminded of that lesson last week.

Lovely girl! Such an interesting experience. I guess those horses have learned to tune out the noise. Without sound, it is an idyllic view!

While I think the sketch is lovely, I get the feeling Jessie a bit sad about wearing a hat without bold flowers:~) I do like the hair color change, but it must have been a dramatic view in the mirror for her!

I loved your story about stopping at the horse farm. I've always loved horses and watching them graze. So, I spent some time just staring at your picture.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Ginny:~)

I like your girl with a hat and the peaceful picture of the horses. It's like that where I live, too, and I love it. I'll always be a farm girl at heart.

I am grateful that we are eating dinner with family tonight and someone else will entertain my daughter if I'm throwing up. I'm also grateful that it's a seder and my family has an awesome haggadah that we created over the years. It's just a cool reminder of how we all work together and contribute our own thoughts and perspectives to tradition.

Beautiful! I love drawing women, faces mostly, and this one you've sketched looks like she has quite a story to tell.

Like you I believe in doing what I want to do now, while the sun is shining and we still have good legs (a quote of mine). :) Nice scenic shot of the horses, btw. Just beauitful.

I love hats and you've captured her chic style perfectly.

I also loved your story about the horse farm as that sounds very much like something that would happen to me! i'm glad you can go back to enjoying the peacefulness from the quiet of your car!
