Friday's Gratitude

Participating in Paint Party Friday is something that I always look forward to.  Although this painting is one that I need to leave alone and come back to in a few days, I thought I would share it as a WIP.  The past two weeks I have been painting with oil pastels and I am really enjoying them.  I still get messy but not as messy as with chalk pastels and the outcome is different.  I am going to take a chalk pastel class in January but I would love to learn more about oil pastels as well. If anyone has any hints or suggestions, I am open to learning as much as I can.

I have a long list of things that I am grateful for this Friday but I think I will shorten it by saying I am thankful that I have found so many creative things that I love to do at this time in my life.  Many of the people I meet have been writing or painting or playing music since they were very young.  I did all of those things too as I was growing up but I never took any of them seriously.  Now, I do.  I enjoy the time that I spend expressing myself through my art or writing.  This week I am grateful that I have realized that being creative is an important part of who I am.  What are you most grateful for today?

I'm very grateful for this post which parallels my life! Very creative when I was young but all over the place dabbling in everything not realizing what was missing! I didn't live the life because I was too busy trying to make everything perfect... now I am more concentrating on living a creative life! I love it too!

Well, I'm grateful for exactly the same thing: I've always been creative but I've never realized how important is really is for me until the last few years. I couldn't live without it anymore ....

It's kinda sad how so many people loved art when they were younger, but then put it aside for years only to come back to it later in life. Well, sad that they put it aside, but happy that they took it up again. :-) i'm glad you found art again Ginny. xox

I don't know any thing about pastels asi haven't used then since school although I do remember I didn't like the chalky feeling in my fingers! My friend uses them in her work and they are wonderful. This week in grateful that I was lucky enough to meet and marry the love of my life (it was or anniversary on Monday!)

It's a lovely painting-very peaceful feeling. I feel the same as you. Looking back, I was creative from the time I can remember as a child and left that go for some years. Once that spark came back there was no turning away-and for that I am grateful, for it fills my heart and soul.

Hi Ginny, just stopping by to say Hi and Happy Thanksgiving.
I love the painting and am so excited that you are doing oil pastels. Have you ever tried using a razor blade or dental tool to scratch off a layer to expose another layer of paint? That is how I work, although it is mostly abstract with a heavy reference to landscape and seascape.
Keep up the good work! You are doing great!
