Kat's series of classes are about finding your eye as a photographer. As a person who spent many years of her life looking down so she would not fall, this has been such a wonderful experience. I now notice things I never noticed before. I am learning to see the details where before I only saw the whole picture. Taking pictures has opened up a whole new world which I now see in a whole new light. What could be more exciting than that?
Last week one of our assignments for Kat Sloma's Journey of Recognition photography class was to shoot pictures in a different light. I normally take pictures during the day in bright sunlight. This is what I am most comfortable doing so for this assignment I decided to take pictures at night. I am not sure if you can tell from the pictures but it was also raining quite a bit! My husband and I went looking for interesting things to photograph. One of the things that caught both of our attention was the wind blowing the rain in front of the spotlights in the first picture. I took the picture out of the car window from quite a distance. When I got home I cropped the picture to help others see what we saw. The second picture was also taken from inside of the car. I like how the colors reflect on the road in this picture. Both pictures are very different from the nature scenes I usually take but I think it is important for me to do new things if I am to grow as a photographer. I definitely enjoyed the experience and I know we will take more night pictures together.

What fun taking pictures in the rain! I have yet to try that experience. I liked the details of the wind blowing the rain in front of the spotlights in the first picture. I also like the reflections of colours in the second picture.

Love all the colors and reflections! I wonder about keeping the camera dry when actually out in the rain.

I am filled with joy for you, with this statement: "Taking pictures has opened up a whole new world which I now see in a whole new light. What could be more exciting than that?" I don't think anything could be more exciting than that - yay!! I really love the first image. Before reading your text I noted how you captured how the rain looks in the street lights, and was impressed - so your intent came across to me! Isn't it interesting how differently the world looks at night, and in the rain? The reflections are wonderful. Congrats for getting out of your comfort zone!

What a fun outing, taking pictures of the falling rain enhanced by the lights. I like how the first picture has a blue color around the light showing the rain, and the wet pavement reflecting colorful lights in the second picture. These are exciting pictures. So nice you experimented and shared with us about venturing out in the rain to photograph. :) Beautiful!

I share your excitement about photography, and how it helps us see the world in new ways. Kudos to you for stepping out of your comfort zone and doing night shots in the rain! I have yet to try that. I love the blurry mystery in your first image, and the wonderful reflections of the lights in your second. Well done!

Good for you. It takes courage to step out of the comfort zone, but you did an amazing job. I liked both photos and can see what you saw when you took them. The second picture really captures me. I love the colors on the road, the lights coming towards me and even the green lit sign I can see off to the side. It composed very well. Thanks for sharing these. I really do enjoy what you're doing with your photography:~)

I love these shots! I can really see the windswept rain in the lights, and the reflections of the lights in the second photo are very pretty. It seems you had fun on this new photo adventure. You've made me want to try some night/city photography!

I love your photographs and your eye. As a teacher I have always been very thoughty BEfore saying something that could have an effect, good or NOT so good, on a child, or an adult, as I have taught the whole range of human beans... I was told something devastating by a 4th grade teacher when we moved in April of 4th grade [meaning my 4th grade year] that has dogged me for 50 years Now. Through my art, writing, and the teaching I am Now DOing on a very JOYous level, I am discovering that this practise of mine is essential.
