Accomplishments

This week I have been thinking alot about accomplishments and what I have accomplished in my life.  I was at a class last week and people were discussing whether or not they had accomplished anything in their life and one person was unsure.  I felt so sorry for her.  She did not realize that everyday we accomplish many many things both large and small.  We are all different so for each of us a list of what we have accomplished in our lifetime will look different but we all have a list.  You don't have to paint a masterpiece, write a best seller, or star in a Broadway play to have accomplished something.
What I find fascinating is that each stage of life presents us with different challenges and thus different accomplishments.  It is wonderful to look back and celebrate what I have already accomplished and exciting to look forward to new goals and challenges. I don't take my accomplishments for granted nor do I brag about them but I am very very proud of what I have already acccomplished and look forward to adding new things to my list of accomplishments because that means that I am continuing to grow and learn and change.  For me that is the biggest accomplishment of all!  What are you proud of accomplishing?

Ginny,

This is such a wise post. I love coming here because you always talk about things women sometimes struggle with, such as being accomplished and saying so.

I also agree about the importance of smaller accomplishments and taking notice of them!

An idea that can help people remember their accomplishments, both big and small, is to purchase a small picture albums, like what you get at a pharmacy. They usually fit 5x7 cards.

The idea is write down accomplishments as they happen on the 5x7 cards and keep them in the album...just to remind yourself of all the things you HAVE accomplished.

This might be an idea for the woman you mentioned in the post because in THIS album, even cleaning out the garage counts:~)

Sorry for the long comment...you know me, I'm not short on words:~)

Have a great day!

I think we often remember our failures more than our accomplishments, which is unfortunate. And I agree that these are very different from person to person.

I do a vision board each year to set goals for the next, and reviewing it at the end of the year is always an important part of my process. It provides a visual record of my hopes and dreams - many of which I fulfill by the end of the year. If you asked me, my recollection of the year's accomplishments may be very different. I feel these records are important reminders of the small and big accomplishments that I often take for granted day to day.

wise words, i too am very proud of my accomplishments although sometimes things get muddled in my mind and all i think of is what else i have to do - it's important to stop and savor all that we have done.

Yes, another post with much food for thought here, Ginny. It is so easy to dismiss our accomplishments as trivial.I hope the woman that you mentioned got some help with realizing what she has done. My friends and I make it a point of reminding each other how much we do and accomplish. We all need that.

Wise indeed. We focus so much on what we are "lacking" as women and as a whole culture. You have made me glance at my accomplishments this week, year and whole life. I am proud today for overcoming my drinking problem 4 years ago. The door swung open to my new creative life. Terah
