I am not sure where I read the words, "perfectionism kills passion" so I cannot give the person credit for their words. But I do want to thank them because what they wrote encouraged me to trying painting again and I am so glad I did. Hopefully these words will encourage you to retry something that you love to do.!
I don't often wear my heart on my sleeve but maybe that is what I am doing today. I have been painting for a long time and it truly is only a hobby. I've taken some lessons and it seems to me that several years ago I hit a plateau and I never seemed to move forward with my work. So I decided to stop taking lessons for awhile and see what happened. I have been painting from time to time but not as much as I used to. Then the other day I read the statment " perfectionism kills passion." And I started to wonder if that is what happened to me and my desire to draw and paint. So yesterday I got my watercolor pencils out and Amber Rose appeared. She is certainly not perfect but I enjoyed creating her and I am anxious to paint some more interesting ladies with crooked eyes and slight smiles. Aferall none of us are perfect, so why do the women I create have to be?

"When one door closes another door opens for us, be we so often look regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us."
Alexander Graham Bell What door or doors will open for you this week? Don't miss what they will have to offer by looking back instead of moving forward. It is time to reflect upon what made me happy this week. I don't know if it was coincidence or not but I have had several conversations lately with good friends about happiness and/or the lack of happiness. One of the things that comes up often in my conversations with women of all ages is the lack of time to take care of themselves or to do things that make them happy. I really don't want to preach on this blog but I think it is hard to be happy if you never take care of yourself or do things that you would like to do. Have I always done things to make myself happy? No, I haven't. But in reflecting this week, I realize that when I remember to take care of myself that I feel happier. And let's face it - it is easier to take care of others when you feel good about yourself and your life. So if you are feeling a little down why not reflect upon what you need to do to take care of yourself and your own happiness and then most importantly do it! Pay attention to the things that make you happy each day and then be sure that you incorporate those things into your life on a daily basis.
This week I realized that color plays an important role in my happiness. Nature's natural colors are beautiful right now so I am making sure to notice and enjoy the trees, the flowers, the sky, and the sunshine. I also want to add color to my clothes so I am buying things that are bright and make me feel young and cheerful. Everywhere I go I pay special attention to the colors all around me and it makes me feel alive. Something as simple as noticing color has brought me a great deal of joy and happiness this week, so I am adding color to the growing list of things that make me happy. I have found that when we share what makes us happy everyone feels better. So please take a minute to leave a comment and let everyone know what special moments (big or small) brought you happiness this week. Today at Wishcasting Wednesday Jamie asked, "What do you wish to transform?" I wish to transform my backyard into a private sanctuary. It doesn't have to be big or spectacular but it does have to be a place where I can go and read or draw or meditate. Now that spring is here I am going to begin to plant flowers and transform one of my favorite places into a private retreat where I can go everyday. The picture above was taken in Barbados and I can only image what type of place was at the end of the driveway. This was beautiful to look at and to take a picture of but I believe that with a little imagination and work I can make my personal retreat into something just as special. What do you wish to transform?
It is Monday and time to start the week. It may be a rainy week with lots of storms. The perfect time to clean out closets, read, write and paint. A perfect week to be creative. But the more I think about it anytime is the perfect time to not only be creative but to recognize the creativity within ourself and others.
As I continue to walk on my creative journey, it has been such a pleasure to meet so many people who are willing to share what they are doing and learning. It has been so much fun to watch their talents grow and flourish. It truly inspires me to try new things and to keep stretching. So my goal for this week is to paint more, write more, and take pictures of what really inspires me each day. As I sit here watching the sun come up while listening to the birds singing, I realize how lucky I am to be able to experience all of these things not once in awhile but everyday. All I have to do is slow down and become aware of the wonderful opportunities that surround me and then take advantage of them. Each one of us has different opportunities depending upon where we live and what we are doing to be creative. That is what makes sharing our knowledge and experiences so exciting. So please keep encouraging yourself and others to continue your creative pursuits and to share what you are doing so that we can all learn and grow together! I would love to know how you will express yourself creatively this week? It's Friday and the day of the week I have chosen to write about the special moments that happened over the last seven days. This has been a lovely week filled with special moments so it is hard to choose just one. I believe because I am looking for the special moments, that I am finding more and more of them.
This week in our writing class our assignment was to notice things that seem to appear before us again and again and to write them down. This is something I do anyway and that I find extremely interesting. On Tuesday afternoon I had two writers from the class come over and we made vision boards. This was the first time I found other people interested in making boards and we had a great afternoon. One of the pictures I found was very simple but the calligraphy was beautiful. It simply said, "live your yoga". Later that day I found another picture with the same saying. Now, I began to think about synchronicity and began wondering where was this leading. All of I sudden it occured to me that I had Judith Lasater's book Living Your Yoga and that I had not read in in a very long while. So I got the book out and began reading it again. The last event that happened intrigues me the most. I have Judith's website on my favorites list. It is directly below a place I visit everyday but I never confuse the two. Yesterday while visiting sites I clicked on what I thought was my usual place to go and what popped up? That's right Judith Lasater's website. I have been thinking about becoming a yoga teacher. I have thinking about how wonderful it would be to go to a yoga/writer's retreat or maybe creating my own. And most of all I have been thinking about "living my yoga". I am curious to see where all of this leads me. It has been an interesting week filled with special moments. I would love to know what special moments have filled your week. |
